Zawadi Shamba Zanzibar

Shamba means farm in Swahili. In Swahili culture, every home has a little shamba where vegetables, fruits and animals are kept to sustain the family.

Zawadi, in keeping with our goal of being a sustainable and Eco friendly property, are following the same path. Here we have chickens, ducks, goats, sheeps, cows, donkeys and an organic garden supplying spices, vegetables and eggs for our guests. All kitchen leftovers and scraps are given to the animals who in turn provide us with a naturally composted fertilizer for the soil to grow our vegetables and fruits. We are proud of our efforts to create a sustainably run business where everyone benefits which in turn preserves the beautiful environment of Zanzibar.
